Hotels in Ortisei
Ortisei (known as St Ulrich in German or as Urtijëi in the majority local Ladin language) is the first of the ski resorts in the Val Gardena and has access to ski areas on both sides of the valley. Although the town has expanded over the years and the main valley road through the lower part of the resort is lined with hotels and restaurants, the higher older centre of the town is very pleasant place to wander in an evening.
The resort - and nearby villages - are also famous for the local woodcarving schools. Visitors arriving from the north will probably have passed by a collection of showrooms in one of the previous villages on the road.
